Biography

As a student at Duke, Andrew has always worked to make an impact. Searching for the phrase "Get Involved" before even matriculating, Andrew arrived on campus already pledged to work on an after-school mentoring program in engineering (Techtronics) and fired-up to cofound a journal of public policy (Duke Journal of Public Affairs) and a computer refurbishment initiative (Wired 2 Achieve).

His passion for helping students first came to the fore as a sophomore when he founded the information website Duiki.com, now the nation's most prominent independent university wiki. Since then he has worked to take advantage of the Duke Conversations Program (Duke Conversations Society), speaking with faculty all over the university at dinner. He has been involved in Student Government every semester since arriving at Duke, serving as a member of the university auditing committee in '05-'06 and '06-'07 before taking charge of creating the student government website and serving on multiple university committees, including the President's Council on Black Affairs.

Andrew also helped found the New Right Review, Duke's nationally recognized award-winning conservative opinion magazine, and serves as its production editor. He also serves as the Research Editor in Physical Sciences and Mathemetics (PSM) on the Journal of Young Investigators.

Though his time at Duke has been filled with activities and commitments, Andrew still manages a basketball game or two, work at the library circulation desk, and to fulfill his love of working with kids - volunteering to work on craft projects at Nasher family days whenever possible. Andrew is also a prominent member of Duke's improvisation troupe Duke University Improv, and does pro bono website work for Duke student organizations and non-profits worldwide. He has been a principle developer for Innoworks.org, McKids.org, Gmcproject.org, and of course, Student Link.

Andrew is something of an autodidact - and his voracious appetitie for knowledge extends into literature, technology, mathematics, and history. His passion for just about everything struck a chord with President Richard Brodhead - enough so that Brodhead prominently featured a conversation with Andrew in his 2007 convocation speech to Freshman.

Runs at the Presidency

Andrew twice ran for the presidency of the student government. Though he lost both elections, in each he had the opportunity to affect the agenda of campus politics as part of his broader committment to serving Duke students.
