Responsibilities
As the director of the VisArts Committee, Beatrice manages the Brown gallery and two student galleries. The Louise Jones Brown Gallery is located in the Bryan Center and holds exhibitions by artist from North Carolina and surrounding states. The exhibitions are a month long and each exhibit features an opening reception for the artists. During the receptions refreshments are provided and students have an opportunity to speak with the artists about their work and display their own portfolios for comments. The two student galleries are located in the Old Perk and in the basement of Bostok, near the computer cluster. These spaces are available for students to exhibit their artwork. The Visual Arts provides funding for printing and mounting. In order to exhibit, a student must submit a proposal to boc2@duke.edu.
Background
Trinity ’09, Philosophy and English major. Beatrice was born in London, but grew up in Milan, Italy. Beatrice have always been interested in Visual Arts, mostly as a critique and appreciator rather than an artist. Beatrice is very excited about the new incentives in the arts that are appearing at Duke University. This is a moment to be involved in the arts; one can feel the change and expect great things.
