[edit] WXDU Program Guide

We aim to make our "eclectic" programming mean something more than mere randomness. Instead of imitating an iPod on shuffle, our DJs try to bring a wide variety of sounds (from the obscure to the populist, from non-Western music to guitar rock) together into a cohesive set. On WXDU, you will hear radio that tends to swerve from the standards of corporate radio. Our "specialty" shows, for example, allow in-depth exploration of a particular genre or mode: jazz, garage and psychedelic rock (Who's Got the Cuckoo?), "world" (Mondo Mundo, Azucar y Candela), metal (The Dead of Night), soul (Border Radio , … And Don't the Kids Just Love It), roots (The Bull City Cosmic Hoedown, Broken Heart and a Glass of Beer), dance (Funk, Disco, Dance Friday [FDDF]), and local music. The Mystery Show allows a different DJ each week to play music united by a common theme or shared concept. Nightly, we feature urban programming, which often includes on-air mixing and freestyling. This summer in particular, you'll be able to hear the best in dancehall and reggae on WXDU. Sports, news and audio documentary shows (Youth Noise Network) make sure WXDU provides entertaining informational content. Finally, our "playlist" DJs, responsible for the majority of our weekly programming, give airtime to noteworthy independent CDs and LPs (local, national and international) while also playing their own favorites.
