The President of the Duke Student Government is the chief of the executive branch. He selects a cabinet, oversees the activities of the DSG Executive Board (consisting of the Vice-Presidents and the SOFC Chair) and attends meetings of the DSG Senate.
The current president is Jordan Giordano.
Responsibilities
The President is charged by the DSG Constitution to:
- convene and preside over meetings of the Cabinet, except at such times as he/she may delegate this function to another member of the Cabinet;
- execute the policy of the DSG as expressed by the Legislature or by the entire DSG in referendum;
- provide for the supervision and coordination of all committees and auxiliary organizations of the DSG; act as the official representative of the DSG;
- issue a report to the Legislature at least once each semester on the activities of the DSG;
- appoint such executive assistants as shall be deemed necessary for the proper execution of his/her duties, and have the power to remove such persons from their positions;
- have the power to veto acts of the Legislature within three (3) days of their passage;
- have the power to appoint student members to University policy-making and advisory bodies with the advice of the Cabinet, subject to ratification by the Legislature;
- serve as an ex-officio, non-voting member of the Legislature;
- convene the Council of Presidents;
- and perform such duties as may be prescribed by By-Law.
