Current SOFC Chair
The current Student Organization Finance Committee is David Hu.
Responsibilities
- Review new student organization requests for recognition and charter.
- Oversee maintenance of the organizational and financial records of all DSG recognized/chartered organizations with OSAF.
- Provide information to all student organizations and Duke undergraduates indicating the proper procedures and deadlines involved in applying for recognition/charter and requesting funds.
- Notify the President and Treasurer of any student organization whose funding from either the General or programming fund is to be discussed in the Senate. This notification should occur no later than three (3) days before the relevant Senate meeting.
- Schedule and preside over all meetings of the SOFC.
- Maintain attendance records for SOFC members, declaring vacant seats after a voting member has two (2) unexcused absences from the SOFC.
- Become an ex-officio, voting member of the DSG Senate and Cabinet.
- Hold office for a one-year term ending with the inauguration of the new SOFC Chair in the spring.
- Fairly present all recognition/charter and funding requests to the Senate.
- After each approval of the following year’s budget in the spring, the SOFC Chair should supply OSAF with the amount of the subsidies for each group per semester. For those groups with multiple OSAF accounts, the SOFC Chair should provide the breakdown of how much each account should receive per semester in accordance to the approved budget line-items.
- Assist and train the SOFC Chair-elect in the period after the election of the new Chair and before his/her inauguration.
- Have the power to invite members of the DSG Senate or Cabinet to attend SOFC meetings, where appropriate.
- Serve as non-voting member of the SOFC, except in the case of a tie.
- Provide a brief rationale for all budgetary statutes to the Senate.
- Issue a biannual report to the Senate on the status of SOFC budgeting, including all DSG accounts and the Programming Fund.
- Present the yearly budgeting policy guidelines to the Senate.
- Maintain and regularly update the SOFC website.
- Oversee, directly or indirectly, the proceedings of the DSG Auditing Committee.
- Fulfill any other duties prescribed by other By-Laws.
