Governance

The Vice President for Athletics and Campus Services is responsible for improving the undergraduate student experience by generating tangible results in the areas of safety and Duke police, auxiliaries (such as the DukeCard), Parking and Transportation Services, dining, facilities, construction and capital projects, University athletics, intramurals and gymnasiums, event management, student services and overall University operations. The Vice President is also in charge of leading the Athletics and Campus Services Committee. Pete Schork (Trinity '12) is the current Vice President for Athletics and Campus Services.

Projects and Tasks

Project Updates

  • Sunday brunch at the Refectory begins!
  • Guest parking passes on sale starting March 2
  • DUSDAC supports formalizing partnership with DSG. Will go to referendum during spring elections.
  • Marine Lab students have been given access to basketball games
  • First-year dining pilot program is well underway and has 81% participation
  • Anderson crosswalk process may be longer than expected. Duke has applied on behalf of DSG to the city for the crosswalk but the time frame is uncertain.
  • Procured 50 recycling bins from Coca-Cola Durham for use at group-sponsored events and various campus locations
  • Zip Cars have arrived on campus and their usage is being monitored.
  • Made "reserved" parking spaces available after 5PM and on weekends, added signage
  • Received preliminary approval for alcohol sales in Lobby Shop
  • Selected the design from several proposals for the East Campus café
  • Concept for Lilly Library study pavilion was approved by the University's Committee for Facilities and the Environment. Design will be included in East Campus plan.

Ongoing Projects and Tasks

  • Create a dedicated grounds endowment
  • Oversee K-Ville tenting and respond to student and parent concerns
  • Monitor basketball line policies and conduct
  • Add speed bump on Anderson St. at bus stop
  • Secure parking permits for LDOC performers, add C1 bus service on LDOC
  • Mandate Senate approval of all future campus eateries.
  • Incorporate Duke University Student Dining Advisory Committee into DSG.
  • Offer beer for sale in the Lobby Shop.
  • Create visitor parking pass for students' guests.
  • Eliminate event parking violation fine when vehicle is towed.
  • Make "reserved" parking spaces open to all students after 5pm.
  • Bring ZipCar pilot program to campus.
  • Make sure regular bus service is expanded during special campus events.
  • Explore use of food points at locally-owned restaurants in Durham.
  • Create an outdoor café adjoining the Marketplace on East Campus.
  • Create a study pavilion in front of Lilly Library on East Campus.
  • Improve service in the Great Hall and the Marketplace.
  • Put recycling bins in every classroom and in the campus post offices.
