The role of the Vice-President for Durham and Regional Affairs is to act on undergraduate concerns in the area external affairs (student-student interactions, faculty-student relations, Duke-Durham relations, etc.). Specific examples as stipulated by the DSG Constitution for some of the interactions dealt with by the VP of D&RA are:
- Work to develop fund-raising strategies for organizations by establishing working relationships with the Office of Alumni Affairs, University Development, and Public Affairs Chair and coordinate the activities of the Inter-Community Council and direct the Young Trustee Process.
- Coordinate activities between the SOFC and the Community Interaction Committee and be an advocate for student groups, their campus importance, and their participation in student government issues.
- Ensure strong ties with the Office of University Life as the committee and the administration to foster cooperation in programming and planning.
- Serve as a liaison to the Community Service Center to develop new training programs and service initiatives to be handled by the Community Service Center.
- Work to facilitate cooperation and communication with IFC, Panhellenic Council, and other social or residential organizations to ensure their representation in student government issues and their involvement with interactive campus projects.
- Assume the Legislative reserved seat on the Union Board
- Vice-Presidents of the student government shall be the primary contact with the administrators in their respective areas.
